Global News is projecting new candidate Nolan Dyck will win the riding of Grande Prairie for the United Conservative Party.
Grande Prairie is a provincial riding located in northwestern Alberta and does not have an incumbent.
This riding was previously represented by United Conservative MLA Tracy Allard who first took office in 2019.
Allard collected 12,713 votes, winning 63.02 per cent of the vote in the 2019 Alberta provincial election.
Allard did not have the smoothest stay in office. She received public backlash and lost her position as municipal affairs minister, after taking a trip to Hawaii against pandemic travel regulations two years ago.
Earlier this year, she announced she was stepping away from politics. Allard revealed she has been dealing with Parkinson’s disease for the past two years and managing it does not align with the lifestyle of a politician.
Local businessman Nolan Dyck is running for the UCP in the 2023 election, and former Grande Prairie city councillor Kevin McLean is running for the NDP.
Voters will decide who will represent Grande Prairie during the upcoming Alberta provincial election on May 29, 2023. Visit this page on election night for a complete breakdown of up-to-the-minute results.
