Emergency crews were called to Queen and Sherbourne streets at around 12:50 a.m.

Police said there was some kind of altercation and reports that a group of people attacked and stabbed a man.

“There appears to be a conflict that’s taken place on the street here just behind me,” Det. Brandon Price told reporters at the scene on Monday.

“There is an attack on one individual, that individual collapses and three suspects flee the scene heading eastbound on Queen Street East,” Price said.

Paramedics told Global News they initially transported a man in his 50s to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

Price said the victim was “bleeding quite badly” and that the man later died in hospital.

On Monday evening, police identified the victim as 55-year-old Jeffrey Munro.

There is no suspect description for the three suspects who fled.

Although it is early in the investigation, Price said it does not appear to be a random attack and that the suspects and the victim might have known each other as it’s a group of people who frequent the area.

“Numerous individuals were seen fleeing the area immediately following the incident east bound on Queen Street East from Sherbourne Street,” police said.
