One person has died and four others are injured after a fire at an apartment building in Scarborough.

A fire was reported at a residential building on Lawrence Avenue East near Morningside Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Toronto police said a fire was reported on the fifth floor of a building in the area. Toronto buses were called in to shelter residents.

Toronto Fire Capt. Dan Viera said two of those rescued from the building were in critical condition and two others had non-life-threatening injuries. Another was pulled from the building without vital signs and pronounced dead.
