Kelowna RCMP announced the news just after 4 p.m., following the incident at Harvey Avenue and Gordon Drive earlier in the day.

The pedestrian was identified as a 27-year-old woman.

“Information from the investigation states the woman was crossing northbound on foot at the intersection against the crosswalk indicator when she was first struck by a semi-trailer truck in the westbound HOV lane,” said police.

“The woman was immediately taken to Kelowna General Hospital, where she was confirmed to have succumbed to her injuries.”

Harvey Avenue, between Burtch Road and Ethel Street, was temporarily closed to traffic but has since reopened.

Eastbound traffic on Harvey Avenue was unaffected.
