Fire crews were called out just after 9:40 a.m. to a home on Cherry Lane on Middleton Mountain.

Footage from the scene shows large flames and plumes of thick black smoke rising from the home.

“It was a very hot, fast-moving fire. We could see it pretty much from the fire hall,” said Coldstream Fire Chief Fiona Morgenthaler-Code.

“By the time we got here, the whole home was involved.”

According to Morgenthaler-Code, three residents who were in the home at the time of the fire made it out safely, however, their pets did not.

Several neighbours, including Karen Wishart, reported hearing loud bangs during the fire.

“The place was in thick black smoke and there were four explosions,” said Wishart.

“It was terrifying for all of us neighbours. It was a very traumatic day for a lot of people here on Cherry Lane.”

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.

“It is a complete loss. We are going to work with an excavator to take some of the pieces of it down because it’s on the verge of collapse and I want to keep everybody safe,” said Morgenthaler-Code.

“We do have our fire investigator on scene, and we’ll work with him to determine the cause.”
