Spiritwood, Sask. RCMP search for 2 suspects after shots fired on First Nation

A dangerous persons alert has gone out from Spiritwood RCMP due to reports of shots fired on Witchekan Lake First Nation on Monday. Officers said several armed suspects are at large, possibly on foot, or driving in a mid-2000’s dark red Mustang – Sep 5, 2022

Spiritwood RCMP are searching for two armed suspects after reports of shots fired on Witchekan Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan on Monday.

Officers issued a dangerous persons alert for Kelly Witchekan and Melvin Starblanket, who are still believed to be in the Witchekan area where the investigation is now focused.

No injuries have been reported in connection to the shots fired.

RCMP said they don’t believe this is connected to the James Smith Cree Nation stabbing spree investigation.

Kelly Witchekan is described as five feet, nine inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Melvin Starblanket is described as five feet, nine inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The updated alert says a mid-2000s dark red Mustang believed to be driven by the suspects has been located and determined to not be involved.

Residents in the Witchekan area are advised to “remain vigilant” and to “not approach suspicious persons or pick up hitchhikers.”

Earlier alerts advised residents to shelter in place.

Anyone who sees the suspects or has information helpful to their arrest is asked to contact police immediately.
