Saskatoon looking ahead 10 years to meet traffic needs

SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon looking to complete 20 major infrastructure projects over the next 10 years to meet the demands of a growing city.

Top on the list is the North Commuter Parkway Project.

The project includes a new bridge in the Marquis Industrial area along with an interchange at Idylwyld and Marquis Drive and improvements to the intersection of Attridge Drive and Central Avenue.

A new Traffic Bridge is also bundled in the project and has been submitted to PPP Canada with the goal of using this approach to fund the project.

Administration is looking to have the new interchange completed in 2015 to meet traffic needs with the remainder of the project completed in 2016.

Other projects in the 10-year plan include arterial roads and interchanges for the Holmwood and Blairmore development sectors.

The plan was developed utilizing a process which identified current capacity and forecasted traffic conditions for a population of 300,000 by 2023.

The list will be presented to the city’s executive committee on Tuesday.
