A B.C. man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being charged with 17 offences in what police initially investigated as an alleged murder plot.
This week, Brandon Nandan, a 28-year-old man from Surrey, pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including counselling someone to discharge a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking.
In late 2020, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia, Surrey RCMP and Burnaby RCMP learned of an alleged conspiracy to commit murder, and identified one suspect. That December, the police executed search warrants in multiple areas of the Lower Mainland.
“The suspect was found at one of the search locations and was arrested,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said.
Officers seized a kilogram each of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as several firearms and two firearm suppressors.
Nandan previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2014 in connection with the death of 20-year-old Branson Sanders.
Sanders was killed over a drug dispute and his charred remains were found in 2011.
Nandan was sentenced to six years behind bars in that case.
