Halifax woman approached 3 times by masturbating man

HALIFAX — Around 4 p.m. yesterday, a woman in her 50’s who was out for a jog along Parkland Drive in Clayton Park was approached by a man in his vehicle. He followed her, while masturbating, and three separate times tried to entice her.

“He did not mention anything to her. He did not talk to her however he obviously was masturbating and trying to gain the attention or bring the attention of the woman” said Cst. Pierre Bourdages, spokesperson for the Halifax Regional Police.

The whole incident happened in a normally quiet area of the city, in broad daylight. Something that makes it even more concerning.

Beverly Robertson lives near where the incident took place, and says crime happens everywhere.

“As long as I’m looking in all directions and I’m aware of my surroundings, I’m fine. I think you have to be vigilant no matter you are, and I don’t think it’s going to make me think this area is somehow less in terms of safety.”

Police are no on the hunt for the suspect. He’s described as a white man with a medium to heavy build, between 45 and 60-years old.

He had shoulder length grey hair and was wearing square frameless eye glasses and a blue t-shirt. He fled the area southbound on Kearney Lake Road towards Dunbrack Street.

The suspects vehicle is described as a newer, grey Honda Accord with no window tint. It’s believed to have a Nova Scotia license plate.

Last month, a man was spotted masturbating outside a woman’s bedroom window in the 100-block of Vimy Avenue. A man was caught doing the same thing on nearby McFatridge Road.

Although the suspects description is different, police are looking to see if there is any connection to the cases.

“It’s of great concern to us. I really can’t explain why someone would go and approach a woman in that kind of manner. So we are looking for that individual and the vehicle and looking for similar reports to see if there’s any connection” said Cst. Bourdages.
