Hamilton police are investigating after a teenage girl was struck by a vehicle at an intersection in the lower city.
It happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday when a vehicle turned left from Main St. West onto Dundurn St. South and struck a 14-year-old girl crossing the street.
The girl was rushed to McMaster Children’s Hospital and was operated on, and remains in critical but stable condition.
Pictures from the scene showed an SUV up on the sidewalk on Dundurn in front of a payday loan location.
Media relations Const. Indy Bharaj said the driver, a 49-year-old Hamilton man, is cooperating with police.
He added that speed and impairment have been ruled out as contributing factors.
Police tweeted that they had sent up drones to assist in the investigation.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and is asking any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam video, to contact them at 905-546-4755.
