Live blog: Trucker convoy protest ends 17th day in Ottawa

The so-called “Freedom Convoy” originally meant to protest COVID-19 vaccine mandates and quarantine rules for cross-border truck drivers has ended its 17th day in Ottawa on Sunday.

The federal government warned Saturday evening that consequences for protesters who break laws will be “increasingly severe.”

Meanwhile, police began arresting protesters in Windsor, Ont., on Sunday morning in an effort to clear a blockade at the Ambassador Bridge, Canada’s busiest border crossing to the U.S.

Police said 25 to 30 were arrested on mischief charges and five vehicles were seized on Sunday.

There is no timeline of when the bridge will reopen to traffic as police plan on how to prevent a new blockade from forming.

Other protests gathered across the country, including in B.C. where a large truck went through an RCMP barricade at the U.S. border.
