HALIFAX – The owner of a downtown Halifax art gallery is hoping the suspect who stole an original piece of art will have a change of heart and return it.

The thief made off with the painting at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, just after the busy afternoon rush at Argyle Fine Art on Barrington Street.

Staff were distracted at the time, and the man simply walked out with the painting.

Gallery owner Adriana Afford, who had just put the painting on display 15 minutes prior, told Global News she immediately felt “sick to [her] stomach.”

“I’m not quite sure if that would be worth their while. If you took that painting — regardless of what the market value might be here — it wouldn’t be the value you would certainly get paid,” Afford said.

The gallery is sharing a photo of the painting on social media in hopes the public will recognize it somewhere. Afford is also appealing to the suspect to simply bring the painting back.
