Peterborough police are warning about ‘porch pirates‘ following recent reported thefts.

Around 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Peterborough Police Service officers were notified of a reported theft in the area of Ravenwood Drive and Parkhill Road in the city’s west end.

Police say a vehicle was reportedly following a delivery van when at one point, the driver of the vehicle got out and grabbed a package that had been delivered and left on the front porch of a home.

Police say last week, a package from a porch of a home was reported stolen sometime between Nov. 24 and Nov. 26 in area of Goodfellow Road and Sherbrooke Street. Officers were notified on Friday and learned the suspects were caught on video taking and then returning the package several days later.

“The victim indicated that an item was missing from the returned package,” police said. “Officers then located the suspects in another apartment.”

A 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and also arrested on a warrant in connection with a domestic incident, theft and two shoplifting incidents.

A 38-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

Police did not release their names as there was a domestic incident in connection to the case to protect the identity of the victim.
