Northumberland OPP search for suspect following shooting in Trent River north of Campbellford

Northumberland OPP say one person was taken to hospital following a reported shooting in Trent Hills on Thursday morning – Sep 16, 2021

One person was taken to hospital and OPP continue to search for a suspect following a reported shooting in the Municipality of Trent Hills on Thursday morning.

Around 8:12 a.m. Northumberland OPP responded to the shooting at a residential property on Centennial Lane in the hamlet of Trent River, north of Campbellford.

Residents were advised to remain indoors following a “serious incident” involving a firearm.

OPP on scene told Global News that one person had been transported to hospital after suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. On Thursday night OPP issued an update stating a male victim remains in hospital in life-threatening condition.

A search of the area was launched as police closed Centennial Lane at County Road 30.

In an update on Twitter issued at 11:54 a.m. OPP said the area around Centennial Lane had been searched and that there was “no safety concern in the immediate area at this time.”

Police in a statement at 10:30 p.m. said they are continuing to search for the suspect identified as Zachary Comeau, 18, of no fixed address. He is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-11, 150 pounds, with blue eyes and brown wavy/curly hair.

“He is considered armed and dangerous,” OPP stated. “If seen, do not approach and call 9-1-1 immediately.”

As of 9 a.m. Friday, OPP said they are still searching for the suspect.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, OPP released an image of Comeau and say the search is still active.
