Edmonton election 2021: Who won in Nakota Isga?

Global News is projecting Andrew Knack has won the seat in Nakota Isga.

With all polls reporting Tuesday morning, unofficial election results show Knack received 66.15 per cent of the vote.

Knack was the incumbent, seeking a third term as councillor in this northwest Edmonton ward.

Edmonton’s municipal wards will be redrawn and renamed effective election day Oct. 18. Formerly Ward 1, this ward is being renamed Nakota Isga (Pronunciation: NA-KOH-TAH EE-SKA).

Knack is running against two other people.

Here’s a quick look at the candidates running for council in Nakota Isga.

Andrew Knack

After contemplating a run at the mayor’s chair, Knack made the decision to seek a third term on council.

Ultimately, Knack said he felt experience was needed on council given the possibility of high turnover. He also felt there were other like-minded people running for mayor.

Dave Olivier

Olivier also ran in this ward in the 2017 municipal election.

He is running on a platform of limiting property taxes to the rate of inflation, because he says council is increasing taxes at an unrealistic rate.

At the same time, he wants to improve core city services.

Steve Weston

Weston grew up in and resides in the northwest Edmonton ward.

His platform focuses on ending homelessness, traffic safety and roads and infrastructure.

In total, 11 people are running for mayor and 74 candidates are running for city council. Eight people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, six of whom have been acclaimed. There are 40 people are running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees.

Advance voting will take place from Oct. 4 to Oct. 13, including Thanksgiving Monday (Oct. 11).

Election day is Monday, Oct. 18.
