Canada election results: Orléans

Liberal Party candidate Marie-France Lalonde is projected to win re-election in Orléans.

The riding of Orléans encompasses most of the former city of Orléans and spans east to Frank Kenny Road and Tenth Line Road and south to Mitch Owens Road. The western border follows Ramsayville Road to Highway 417 and the northern border follows Highway 174 to the Ottawa River.

Orléans is home to 128,281 residents and 106,321 registered voters. Immigrants make up close to 18 per cent of this riding’s population, with Haiti and the United Kingdom being popular origin countries, according to the 2016 census.

The riding has a significant francophone population, with over 30 per cent of the population listing French as their first language in the 2016 census.

The Liberals maintained control over the region for another term, with Lalonde winning the seat in 2019. She collected 54.3 per cent of the vote, followed by Conservative David Bertschi, who had 28.2 per cent.

Lalonde replaced Liberal MP Andrew Leslie, who chose not to run for re-election in the area’s most populous riding.
