Canada election results: Niagara West

Global News is projecting Conservative MP Dean Allison will be re-elected in the riding of Niagara West.

Allison first won the seat in 2004, and has been re-elected in each federal election since. In 2019, Allison beat Liberal candidate Ian Bingham with just over 45 per cent of the vote.

The riding is located in southern Ontario, specifically in the regional municipality of Niagara. It includes the towns of Grimsby, Lincoln and Pelham, the townships of West Lincoln and Wainfleet, and a portion of the city of St. Catharines. Niagara West borders on both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The riding was formally known as Niagara West–Glanbrook before being redistributed in 2012. Through the redistribution, it lost a portion of Hamilton but gained parts of Wainfleet and Port Colborne.

Just over 11 per cent of the riding’s population works in manufacturing, and another 11 per cent work in health care and social assistance, according to the 2016 census.
