Prohibited driver crashes SUV into front of Peterborough home on Aylmer Street: police

A Peterborough man faces a number of charges including flight from police after a SUV crashed into the front of a home on Saturday morning – Feb 22, 2021

No injuries were reported after a SUV crashed into the front of a home in Peterborough on Saturday morning.

Officials said emergency crews were called to the scene on Aylmer Street at the corner of Romaine Street at around 10:15 a.m.

Paramedics did not treat any patients.

The vehicle crashed into the front porch of the home, causing extensive damage.

Several occupants inside the home were shaken up, but not seriously hurt.

A witness — who did not give her name — says she saw two people flee the scene on foot.

Later Saturday, the Peterborough Police Service stated the incident stemmed for a vehicle which failed to stop for an officer on Park St. around 10 a.m. and accelerated away.

Officers called off the pursuit at Aylmer and King streets. Shortly after police received a 911 call about the crash.

Officers, with the help of witnesses. located and arrested three people. There were no injuries to any bystanders; one of the people in the car suffered minor injuries.

Two of the three individuals were released.

The driver, Dominic Rivers, 28, of Peterborough was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, flight from police and driving while prohibited.

He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.

The house will remain cordoned off pending a structural evaluation, police said.
