The Rideau Canal Skateway in Ottawa will open to its full 7.8-km length on Tuesday morning, the National Capital Commission says.
The canal first opened a 2.4-km section between the Bank Street and Pretoria bridges on Thursday of last week.
Two additional sections from Pretoria to the Concord rest area and from the Bank Street bridge to Bronson Avenue opened for public use on Sunday morning.
Starting Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. the skateway will be open from Rideau Street to the Hartwells Locks near Carleton University.
Last year, poor freezing conditions prevented the Rideau Canal Skateway from ever opening to its full length.
COVID-19 precautions remain in place for the skateway’s 51st season. Only residents living near the canal are asked to make use of the site for recreation, and all users are asked to wear masks and maintain physical distance.
Concessions, rentals, picnic tables and other amenities are not in place this season.
