Police are withholding how a middle-aged man died in northwest Edmonton, following an autopsy this week.

Homicide detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a 53-year-old man after an incident Saturday evening in the Athlone neighbourhood.

Officers were called around 10 p.m. to reports of a man in cardiac arrest at a home in the area of 128 Avenue and 129 Street.

Officers found an unconscious man inside a home, according to police, who also said several suspects fled the scene and no one was in custody.

Terry Allen Maksymyszyn, 53, was taken to hospital by paramedics where he died of his injuries around 4:20 a.m. Sunday.

The Edmonton medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Tuesday. In an update Wednesday, police identified the victim but said the cause and manner of his death were not being released at the time for investigative purposes.

When asked on Wednesday, an Edmonton police spokesperson said the death is still being considered suspicious and is not classified as a homicide at this time.
