Decision Calgary: Ward 14 candidates

Ward 14 is in the city’s south and includes the communities of Bonavista Downs, Chaparral, Deer Ridge, Deer Run, Diamond Cove, Lake Bonavista, Legacy, Maple Ridge, Midnapore, Parkland, Queensland, Silverado, Sundance, Walden and Willow Park.

It is home to part of Fish Creek Provincial Park and to many of Calgary’s man-made lakes including Lake Chaparral, Lake Bonavista, Lake Bonaventure, Midnapore Lake and Sundance Lake.

FAST FACT: With just over 72,000 residents, Ward 14 has one of the smallest populations in the city.

Current Councillor: Peter Demong is seeking his second term.

THE CANDIDATES 

PETER DEMONG (incumbent) was first elected in the 2010 civic election, defeating incumbent Linda Fox-Mellway by more than 3,000 votes. He ran on a platform of fiscal conservatism, cutting red tape at city hall and reducing business taxes. Demong owns Deer Valley Florist and is also a board member of the the Progressive Group for Independent Business. Before becoming a small business owner, Demong worked as a logistics manager for Nose Creek Forest Products.
