Multiple homes suffered damage in a blaze that broke out in the community of Evanston on Tuesday.
Calgary firefighters were called to the 400 block of Evanston Drive Northwest at around 9:30 a.m.
Thick black smoke could be seen coming from the exterior of the home, and flames had already begun spreading to neighbouring houses when crews arrived.
The Calgary Fire Department said one person and their dog made it out of the house safely, as well as another person in a neighbouring home.
Police and firefighters, meanwhile, worked together to evacuate surrounding homes and reroute area traffic.
“All of a sudden, I heard some sound and screaming. I came out, running. People were running around. By that time, the two houses were full ablaze and it was really hard to watch,” said Sojan Paul, who lives in the area.
“The smoke was just so thick you couldn’t breathe,” added neighbour Darlene Deverall.
The community is rallying together to support those affected, said Sonja Kazimer, who lives nearby.
“You’re thankful that these people came out of here safe and OK but you just pray that they have the support that they need to get through this,” she said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
