One woman dies, another hurt after small plane crashes in Mission, B.C.

A woman in her sixties has died after a plane crash near Stave Lake. Mission RCMP received a report that a Cessna 170 went down on an abandoned airstrip just before 6 p.m. Monday. – Jul 28, 2020

A woman has died after a small plane crashed on a rural airstrip on the north end of Stave Lake in Mission, B.C., while another woman was injured.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said an emergency call came in at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday that a Cessna 170 with two people aboard had gone down at the Stave Lake airstrip.

“When our officers arrived at the crash scene, they found a 21-year-old woman had been injured and a 66-year-old woman, who had died,” Sgt. Chris Robinson of Mission RCMP said in a release.

“The injured woman was transported to a larger area hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries,”

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board, with assistance from local police.

No word at this point on what caused the plane to go down.
