Police issued a warrant for Larissa Shingebis, 26, on Saturday in connection to the slaying of 79-year-old Little, who was killed in her central Hamilton apartment.

On Sunday, police announced Shingebis had been arrested without incident at a local shelter after officers received information from staff at the shelter that she had been staying there.

Police say Shingebis will be charged with first degree murder on Monday.

Little was discovered dead by her family the following day.

Police say Shingebis is originally from Thunder Bay and has a transient lifestyle.

In a media release issued Saturday night, investigators said they were releasing the suspect’s name and photo for public safety reasons, due to the “random and violent” nature of the case.

Police add that Little, Hamilton’s fifth homicide victim of 2020, did not know her assailant.

Police say Little’s family has been notified of the arrest “which has provided them with some conciliation that their mother’s killer is no longer a threat to anyone else.”
