1 dead in explosion at southeast Calgary RV storage facility

One person was found dead on Thursday afternoon following an explosion at an RV storage facility in southeast Calgary.

Emergency crews were called to the facility on the east side of Macleod Trail at 210 Avenue just after 4 p.m.

According to the Calgary Fire Department (CFD), a fire started by the explosion was out when they arrived, but debris that appeared to be from a motorhome filled the area.

One man found near the scene was pronounced dead by paramedics.

In a news release, the CFD said at least six other trailers and campers sustained damage, and there was also a report of a passing car being hit with debris.

Calgary fire investigators and Calgary police arson detectives are working together to determine what happened.
