Police seek tipster in case of missing man

Codiac Regional RCMP is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing Moncton man.

43-year old Michael Andrew Blakney has not been seen in more than a month.

The RCMP says they have received an anonymous tip, suggesting that hunters were overheard talking about suspicious images.

The tipster says that a conversation was overheard that mentions images that show a man wearing a baseball cap and riding a bicycle – a similar description of Blakney was released by police.

The images were allegedly captured on a camera that had been set up in the woods near Scoudouc.

"The tip is vague but contained enough specific information that investigators want to speak directly with the tipster and if the information is factual, then directly to the hunters." stated Cst. Chantal Farrah of Codiac Regional RCMP. "We understand it’s common practice for hunters to install cameras in areas they plan to hunt in order to capture footage of animals, so this tip is being considered credible."

The RCMP want to talk to the tipster that left the anonymous message or to the hunters that were allegedly overheard.

Blakney is of average build, 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 150lbs, and has reddish brown or auburn coloured hair. He also walks with a limp. Blakney uses prescription glasses and often wears a ball cap.

Police are asking anyone who can help in this case to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
