NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. – A U.S. man has died in a fall on the challenging backcountry cycling trails of Vancouver’s North Shore mountains.
Thirty-eight-year-old mountain biker Jeffrey Fields of Boise, Idaho was wearing a helmet but suffered severe head and neck injuries at around noon Monday.

RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong said Tuesday the man tumbled about two metres while biking alone on a trail on Mount Fromme, in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park in North Vancouver.
Fields was unconscious when he was found by other bikers and died before he could be carried off the mountain.
De Jong said Fields apparently fell from a nearly two-metre-high balance board, similar to a teeter-totter, which is one of the obstacles available to cyclists using the trail.
The coroners’ service will look into the cause of the accident and police are continuing their investigation.
