Cocaine, pot, a machete, body armour and cash seized in Calgary drug busts

CALGARY – Police have charged four people in connection to two different drug busts in the city.

On Thursday, police stopped a vehicle leaving a home believed to be a drug storage location. The driver was arrested and found to have over 228 grams of marijuana in his possession, as well as $955 in cash.

Police then searched a home in the 100 block of Hampstead Rise N.W. and found over $14,000 in cash, and 21.9 kilograms of pot with an estimated street value of $219,000.

Two adults found in the home were taken into custody.

Police have charged 55-year-old Phuc Di LY with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.

Si Tan NGUYEN, 42 and Phuong Quoc Hoang LE, 32, of Calgary, are each charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.

The next day, police searched a home in the 3000 block of 23rd Avenue S.W. after a two-month long drug investigation.

Investigators seized cocaine worth approximately $1,200, a large machete, body armour, handcuffs, a gun holster, electronic scales, packaging materials and approximately $1,000 in cash.

Police have charged 27-year-old Roberto Soto with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, proceeds of crime and possession of body armour without a permit.
