TORONTO — Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis will be the keynote speaker at the 2013 Calgary Breakfast, organizers announced Wednesday.
The 57-year-old star of films like Thelma & Louise and A League of Their Own is an advocate for gender equality. She launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2007.
Davis won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1988’s The Accidental Tourist.
The Oct. 15 event at the Hyatt Regency Calgary will raise money to support the Canadian Women’s Foundation, which operates programs to help women move out of poverty by learning a trade, starting a small business or gaining work experience.
Tickets are currently available online for $250 each or $2,000 for a table of 10.
