19-year-old dead, Halifax police investigating first homicide of 2019 after shooting

A man has died after suffering life-threatening injuries during a shooting in Halifax on Friday.

Halifax Regional Police say they responded to a report of a man shot in the 7100 block of Scot Street at 5:35 p.m.

Multiple officers responded to the scene, where they located a 19-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

“[The man] was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight,” said Sgt. Tanya Chambers-Spriggs, a watch commander with the Halifax Regional Police, on Saturday.

Police have now identified the victim as Triston Reece.

Shortly after 6:45 p.m. on Friday, officers could be observed canvassing the area around Joseph Howe Drive and Scot Street, other officers were taking photos and investigating a vehicle farther down the road.

Officers cordoned off multiple blocks around the scene, eventually opening the area to traffic on Saturday morning.

Police say they are investigating the incident as a homicide, the first in Halifax this year.
