TORONTO – The Toronto Region Conservation Authority has issued a warning saying Lake Ontario water levels remain high with “risks” during heavy wind or wave activity following Wednesday’s heavy rain.
It says some rivers in the Greater Toronto Area are experiencing higher flows and water levels, resulting in hazardous conditions.
The organization says a combination of slippery and unstable banks could create dangerous conditions close to any river, stream or other water bodies.
It also says that high water levels in Lake Ontario can result in reduced capacity of streams at river mouths during heavy rainfall events and thunderstorms.
It says boardwalks and other pathways along the waterfront are dangerous due to the high water levels, and adds that the warning will remain in effect through Thursday.
Environment Canada forecasts a mix of sun and clouds during the day, and a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight with risk of a thunderstorm.
