Young woman dies during Toronto Marathon

TORONTO – The 18-year-old woman who died while participating in the Goodlife Toronto Marathon has been identified as Emma van Nostrand of Cape Breton, N.S.

An article published on The Cape Breton Post website Sunday night said Emma van Nostrand traveled to Toronto with her parents to run the marathon.

All three were described as avid runners.

The exact cause of van Nostrand’s death is still unknown.

Earlier Sunday evening, police confirmed that the young woman, now identified as van Nostrand, collapsed on Lake Shore Blvd. due to a medical condition.

She was unconscious and without vital signs when they arrived on-scene.

Despite a full resuscitation effort, paramedics were unable to revive her.
