A man and a woman are dead and one boy injured after a stabbing at a home in Brampton Wednesday just before 11:30 p.m.
Peel police were called to Quarry Edge Drive in the Main Street North and Bovaird Drive East area for reports of a domestic disturbance.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), known as the province’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate and is investigating the incident.
The SIU said police officers arrived at the home, breached the front door to the residence and entered the bathroom on the main floor where they found a 47-year-old man with stab wounds. The man was arrested and treated by police and later Peel Paramedics. He was pronounced dead on scene shortly after midnight, SIU said.
The SIU said a 41-year-old woman was located on the upper level of the home with serious injuries and was transported to hospital where she died.
A 12-year-old child was treated for injuries and transported to hospital, the SIU said. Peel Police said the boy is in stable condition.
The SIU also said that there was a second child in the home, a 3-year-old girl escaped to a neighbour’s house unscathed.
Police said there are no outstanding suspects and no concern for public safety.
The SIU said three investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident. It is urging anyone with information or any video to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injuries or allegations of sexual assault.
