2 people taken to hospital following early morning collision on Sherwood Park Freeway

A portion of Sherwood Park Freeway was closed for several hours early Saturday following a collision that sent two drivers to hospital.

Police and EMS were called to an area along the freeway near 71 St just after 2 a.m.

Police said a Ford F150 was travelling eastbound on the freeway and was about to make a left hand turn when it collided with a Jetta that was travelling westbound.

The force of the collision caused the Jetta to move into another lane where it was struck by a Toyota Corolla also travelling westbound.

The drivers of the Corolla and the Jetta was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Jetta has since been released.

The driver and two passengers of the F150 were not injured.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this collision.

The freeway was closed for several hours while police investigated.
