The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame recognized International Women’s Day with the opening of a historic exhibit celebrating some of the province’s finest female athletes.
The collection – Women in Sport: Celebrating Manitoba Women Past, Present, and Future – includes artifacts from members of the hall of fame and other women who have made important impacts in Manitoba sports.
Autographed memorabilia, uniforms, and awards adorn the walls of the exhibit, including 12 Olympic and Paralympic swimming medals from 10 different competitions, Clara Hughes’ entire Olympic medal collection, and artifacts from the early days of women’s sports in Manitoba.
“This collection, which has been in the works for a long time, is truly special,” said Sport Manitoba president and CEO Jeff Hnatiuk.
“We’re proud to showcase Manitoba’s great women in sport with this exhibit and celebrate those who have blazed the trail for today’s young female athletes.

“It’s only fitting to unveil it today, International Women’s Day.”
The exhibit was launched at an event Friday morning that featured local dignitaries and a large group of Manitoba sportswomen – past and present – who are honoured members of the hall of fame.
