Man critically injured after shooting at gas station in midtown Toronto

Toronto police say a man suffered critical injuries after being shot at a gas station in midtown Toronto.

Police said they responded to a call at 12:24 a.m. Friday near Avenue Road and Eglinton Avenue West.

Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Duty Insp. Jim Gotell said the victim was pumping gas when he was approached by a male suspect who started firing.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in a dark-coloured crimson blue SUV.

Residents in the area say they are shocked an incident like this could happen in their neighbourhood.

“Honestly we don’t have things like this in this neighbourhood. This is one of the better neighbourhoods in Toronto,” Patricia Penner said. “I just hope this isn’t a regular thing. It’s very scary.”

“There’s some bad people in this city as well. It’s unfortunate that we have to deal with this but someone lose their life, that’s tragic right there,” Avi Baner said.
