Winnipeg’s Kienan LaFrance headed back to Saskatchewan Roughriders

After a year away, free agent running back Kienan LaFrance is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

LaFrance signed a one-year contract to re-join the green and white after playing one season for his hometown Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

As a Bomber, LaFrance had 36 carries for 137 yards and two touchdowns in his old stomping grounds where he played four seasons for the Manitoba Bisons. He also had eight catches for 64 yards in backing up Andrew Harris. LaFrance was also used sparingly as a kick returner.

LaFrance first joined the Riders as a free agent in 2017 and had 273 yards rushing with two touchdowns in 13 games.

The 27-year-old played his first two seasons in the CFL with the Ottawa RedBlacks after they selected the Sturgeon Heights Huskies product in the sixth round of the 2015 CFL Draft.

LaFrance appeared in a pair of Grey Cup games and played a pivotal role in helping the RedBlacks get to the 2016 championship game. He had 157 yards rushing with a touchdown in the Eastern Final. He added another 42 rushing yards in the title game in helping the RedBlacks win their first Grey Cup.
