North Shore Rescue says the body of a missing snowshoer has been recovered from the site of an avalanche.

Rescue crews resumed their search for Remi Michalowski on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old was swept away by an avalanche Monday morning in a remote area near Mount Seymour.

His friend was able to hang onto a tree as the snow crashed down, and then called 911.

Members of North Shore Rescue could not get out Tuesday because bad weather made searching too dangerous.

The delay was excruciating for Michalowski’s mother, who was holding out hope.

Lidia Majerski said her son was an experienced and responsible hiker who was well-prepared for his Family Day long weekend trip.
