The mother of a snowshoer reported missing near Mount Seymour remains hopeful after search efforts were suspended on Tuesday.
Calling it a sad, difficult situation, North Shore Rescue (NSR) postponed the search for 39-year-old Remi Michalowski after it was determined weather conditions meant there was no safe way to continue its search efforts.

NSR team leader Mike Danks said crews hope to resume their search on Wednesday, when weather conditions are expected to improve.
However, he said the continued avalanche risk means they will still be limited to the number of personnel and dogs and they can put into the remote area.

Michalowski was one of two experienced hikers hit by a snow slide between Runner Peak and Mount Elsay on Monday morning.
One was able to cling to a tree and call 911. He was eventually airlifted to safety Sunday afternoon.
Michalowski’s mother Lidia Majerski says he is an experienced and responsible hiker who was well-prepared for his Family Day long weekend trip.
Majerski said she was expecting him to be back at their Surrey home Monday evening.

Now, with shovels packed and relatives by her side, she says she plans to continue looking for Michalowski herself.
She understands the challenges NSR faces, but is pleading for help.
“I still believe in my heart and I’m sure that he’s still alive,” Majerski said. “It’s already 24 hours. I just want to beg somebody to help him.”
