Several multi-vehicle collisions have forced the closure of the westbound Hwy. 401 through Woodstock and Ingersoll this afternoon.
One collision, which occurred around 2 p.m. at Foldens Line, left one person dead, police said. Few details have been released, and information on reported injuries was not available.
The closure itself runs from Hwy. 2 in Woodstock until at least Plank Line in Ingersoll. Traffic is being detoured along Hwy. 2 which is experiencing heavy delays.
Provincial police have been reporting white-out conditions on local roadways due to blowing snow.
“You could be driving down the road one second and be involved in a white-out condition,” said OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk. “If you don’t have your lights on, we won’t be able to see you, and neither’s anybody else.”
Environment Canada has issued a blowing snow advisory for the London region, saying we could see between 5 and 10 centimetres of snow by the time the system moves out late tonight.
In Milton, a collision involving more than 20 vehicles shut down all westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 earlier Wednesday afternoon. No serious injuries were reported and the roadway reopened around 3 p.m.
