Will Smith’s Genie in ‘Aladdin’ triggers onslaught of internet mockery

Disney gave Aladdin fans a glimpse of the upcoming live-action movie during the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday but unfortunately, many fans were not impressed with what they saw.

When the first-look photos arrived in 2018, Will Smith, who plays Genie, was not blue and just wore a long top knot.

The new trailer featured the blue Smith shown at the end with Aladdin entering the cave to retrieve the magical lamp in which the Genie resides.

The first look at Smith’s blue Genie in the live-action film triggered an onslaught of internet mockery.

Some Disney fans said they would wait to make their minds up about Smith’s character once the movie is released in May.

Smith posted the trailer to his Instagram, writing, “I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!!”

Aladdin hits theatres on May 24 and stars Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Smith.
