It has a juicy patty, cheese, lettuce, mayo and onions – but you wouldn’t want to eat this burger. Still, someone wanted to steal it.

The decorative burger, one of two outside Shuswap Grill Gourmet Burgary in Salmon Arm, was pillaged Monday between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. when the restaurant was in the midst of its dinner rush.

“I personally think it’s a high school prank,” said restaurant owner Dan Shields.

The hamburglar(s) arrived by truck, loaded up the 60-pound, one-metre-tall Styrofoam burger and sped away. The only evidence left behind were tire tracks in the snow.

Shields says the crime has left some customers searing.

“Some of them are mad and some of them get the humour. A lot of them have been posting pictures of the [McDonald’s] Hamburglar.”

Shields bought the big burgers less than two years ago from a secondhand store. He put them near the restaurant entrance after the city told him they could not be displayed on the roof.
