Winter storm forces closures, cancellations in Hamilton

With the City of Hamilton under a winter storm warning and cold weather alert this weekend, there are some closures and cancellations to report.

Sunday Jan. 20

The 10:30 a.m. service at Pioneer Memorial United Church, located at 1974 King Street, is cancelled.

All HWDSB schools and administrative buildings remain closed on Sunday, which applies to all weekend events, including Continuing Education programs and community rentals in those schools.

Niagara College campuses are closed on Sunday due to the weather. All classes and activities are cancelled.

DARTS Service is cancelled on Sunday.

Saturday Jan. 19

All Halton District School Board events, job interviews and international language classes have been cancelled.

The Circle of Security parenting group meeting scheduled for Saturday morning at the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club EarlyON Child and Family Centre has been cancelled. Jan. 26 is the new start date.

The Hamilton Amateur Astronomers Scope Clinic scheduled for Jan. 19 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. has been cancelled. It has been rescheduled for Saturday Feb. 2.

All HWDSB schools and administrative buildings are closed on Saturday and Sunday, which applies to all weekend events, including Continuing Education programs and community rentals in those schools.

Columbia International College is closed on Saturday, and while there are no classes scheduled, all scheduled ETO (external testing) and SD (student development) events are cancelled.

Mohawk College is closing at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

All Hamilton Public Library branches are closed on Saturday. All Burlington Public Library branches are closed on Saturday at 3 p.m.

City of Hamilton rec centres will close early between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and any evening programs are cancelled. Arenas will remain open.

The city’s civic museums are also closed on Saturday.

The storm system is expected to bring 15 to 25 cm of snow to the area by Sunday.
