Payne was first elected in 2015. She served as the associate minister of health from February 2016 to June 2018.

In April 2018, Payne announced she would not run for re-election in 2019.

History

Payne was part of the 2015 orange crush, which saw the Alberta NDP stomp out a 44-year Progressive Conservative dynasty in the province.

PC MLA and former justice minister Jonathan Denis held the seat prior to Payne’s election in 2015. Denis resigned as justice minister and solicitor general in April 2015 as he went through legal proceedings with his wife.
