Suspicious package at Midland Walmart deemed non-explosive: police

Police have concluded their investigation into a suspicious package found at a Walmart in Midland.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, at around 1:30 p.m., officers received a report of a suspicious package at the Walmart on Highway 12.

Police say employees and shoppers evacuated the store as a precaution.

Officers say the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit was called in to assist and a perimeter was established around the store while police investigated.

According to police, officers have now concluded their on-site investigation and have deemed the item to be non-explosive.

Police say there is no threat to public safety, and the store will re-open shortly.
