An elderly woman has died after being hit by a pickup truck in West Kelowna Saturday morning.

RCMP say emergency crews were called to a laneway in the parking lot of a business complex in the 2300-block of Highway 97 at 11:09 a.m.

When they arrived, they found the operator of a black Ford F150 pickup truck had hit the woman while turning left into the parking lot.

The 83-year-old woman was seriously injured.

“Tragically she was pronounced deceased by emergency first responders at the scene,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP said in a release.

Police say the driver of the truck, a 34-year-old West Kelowna man, who was emotionally impacted by the incident, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation.
