Calgary police have charged two men with second-degree murder in the 2017 homicide of Adam Young.
Young, 35, was last seen on Nov. 20, 2017 in southeast Calgary. Police pleaded for information in the man’s disappearance, to no avail.
Information gathered over the course of the investigation determined “there was a strong probability of foul play,” police said. His disappearance then turned into a homicide investigation.
In October of this year, police conducted a 10-day search at a rural property south of the city, near Aldersyde, Alta.
The search involved specialized units and exhaustive grid searches. Staff. Sgt. Martin Schiavetta would not say Wednesday what was found, but said investigators are examining “dozens and dozens of exhibits taken from the rural property.” He called the investigation “complex” and “labour intensive.”
Police said evidence collected from the property, along with additional search warrants executed at multiple locations throughout Calgary, led to the charges.
Jeffrey Ryan Brady, 34, and Robert Floyd Cudney, 39, both of Calgary, have been charged with second-degree murder, police said Wednesday.
Schiavetta said Young and the two accused were known to each other and it’s believed they were friends. He also said investigators believe there were others involved in Young’s death.
“We’re still pursuing the fact that other individuals may be involved or culpable in his murder,” he said.

Police believe Young was killed after his “last footprint of life,” which is estimated to be shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2017. Schiavetta said the motive for the killing is still under investigation.
Neither of the accused live at or own the rural property east of Calgary that was the focus of much of the police search, Schiavetta said, but added they had access to it as the owner is an associate of theirs. He added possible charges against the owner of the property are under investigation.

Schiavetta said investigators still haven’t recovered Young’s body, adding it’s “unusual” to lay charges without a body.
“We have been in constant communication with Adam’s family throughout the investigation, from the time that he was reported missing to the charges being laid,” Schiavetta said. “Obviously this is an unbelievably traumatic event. I think charges bring some closure, but obviously, without bringing Adam home, the family is still suffering.”
Schiavetta said police also haven’t ruled out the possibility the charges laid against the two men could be amended as there are “elements of first-degree murder that we would still have to prove.”
