A woman is dead and a man was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in east-end Toronto.

Police said they responded to a call around 6:49 a.m. Friday in the area of Birchmount Road and Ellesmere Road.

Authorities said a vehicle jumped a curb and struck one pedestrian before hitting another standing near a bus stop. It eventually stopped at a parking lot.

Police said two TTC buses were stopped westbound on Ellesmere just west of Birchmount when the vehicle traveling westbound veered onto the sidewalk.

Toronto paramedics said a 59-year-old woman was located without vital signs and was later pronounced dead. A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the 46-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
