REGINA – The Water Security Agency has released its April spring runoff forecast and the news is not good for the Saskatoon area.
The agency says a one in 25 year flood event is possible for Saskatoon and the surrounding area.
North Battleford and Prince Albert along with Regina, Moose Jaw and Weyburn may also see a one in 25 year flood event.

Most other parts of the province are expect to have an above average runoff.
The agency says the updated potential is due to greater than normal amounts of precipitation in March.
“With the increased snow cover and late melt, I urge all people and communities to look at the forecast and prepare for flooding,” said Ken Cheveldayoff, the minister responsible for the agency.
“The Water Security Agency along with the Ministries of Government Relations, Agriculture, Highways and Infrastructure are committed to be there for the people of Saskatchewan as we prepare for spring runoff.”
Last month, the government held a number of meetings with at-risk communities to prepare them for the potential of flooding and actions that can be taken to prevent and respond to flooding.
The agency has also increased the outflow from the Rafferty and Alameda reservoirs in advance of the runoff.
