Montreal metro paralyzed at tail-end of rush hour

MONTREAL – At around 5:45pm, near the end of of rush-hour, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) tweeted service interruptions for an indefinite period of time on the orange, blue, yellow and green lines.

“It was on all the networks so all four lines were down and it lasted 66 minutes,” said Amélie Régis, spokesperson for the STM.

Over 50 buses were deployed to help accommodate frustrated metro users.

One man said it was his first time taking the metro, “I usually take my bike, I think I won’t take the metro anymore.”

This isn’t the first time a software issue has paralyzed the underground system, less than 3 weeks ago the main server caused a meltdown on all the lines. The same thing happened last July. The STM says they’re working on it.

“The good news is we know the solution. We are now testing a software update that should be done by the end of the month.”

Meanwhile some commuters have decided on alternative methods of transit.

“I prefer taking the bus after what happened today, I’m scared it’s going to happen again,” said metro user Nay Farah.
